Osgoode Hall
Osgoode Hall, the main judicial venue for Victorian Justice. This is where most of these cases were heard. This is also where the lead characters spend much of their time; in the robing room, the halls and in famous Courtroom #4.
This photo is of Osgoode Hall in 1860. The building continues to be in use today and is the site of the Court of Appeal for Ontario.
Osgoode Hall’s Courtroom #4
Most of the cases of Victorian Justice take place in Osgoode Hall’s Courtroom #4. This room is virtually intact from the Victorian period.
On the wall is a very rare version of Justicia, or Lady Justice where she is sitting in a chair, her sword lowered and her scales of justice unbalanced.
Toronto Cemeteries
The characters in this series were real people, many of whom are buried in Toronto cemeteries with markers which remain to this day.
Our series lead Robert Harrison and his family are buried in St James Cemetery Toronto.
M.C. Cameron and his family are also buried in St James cemetery, Toronto.
Eliza Campbell
In Season 2 of Victorian Justice, the lead of the season, Eliza Campbell, fights to defend her honour against accusations of adultery and to defend her child from being declared a bastard.
Eliza Campbell died in 1910. She was buried in an unmarked grave in Mount Pleasant cemetery .
To honour her and her courageous fight for justice a gravestone has been purchased for Eliza and she is remembered with affection by the Victorian Justice team.
Newspaper Transcripts
The Globe, and several other newspapers, play a huge role throughout the series. Newspapers provided virtual transcripts of court proceedings and frequently fanned the flames of the public’s rush to judgment.
This is an image of The Globe from 1875, which later became known as the newspaper we know today as The Globe and Mail. The editor of The Globe was George Brown, an ardent abolitionist.
